Ocean Diver Qualification - overview
A BSAC Ocean Diver is
someone who has gained open water diving experience and is considered
ready to take part in dives partnered by a diver of the same, or higher,
grade under a Branch Diving Officer or Dive Manager.
They are restricted to dives of a maximum depth of 20 metres, with
no decompression stops, using 21%, 32% or 36% O2 breathing gas
mixes.
Diving demands some
theoretical understanding of related sciences and the subjects covered are
both varied and interesting
BSAC Ocean Diver
has the following elements:
The theory lessons and
pool sessions tend to take place during the winter period from October to
March and you can work at your own pace.
Training is done by club members who have trained as instructors.
An Ocean Diver Student Training Pack will need to be purchased (current
cost £32). This contains the BSAC Diving Manual, a Qualification
Record Book (QRB) binder/inserts, and the Ocean Diver student notes with
A5 binder.
The pool sessions take
place on Tuesday evenings from 9.00 to 10.00 pm at the Banstead Leisure
Centre where Banstead Divers has exclusive use of the pool (followed by a
social gathering in the bar of the football club!!)
The theory lessons are
arranged to suit trainees, usually in small groups, either in the evening
or at weekends. Please remember that our instructors are giving up
their free time to train you so you have to be flexible about when you are
available.
The open water sessions
will either take place at an inland dive site, or off the coast of
Littlehampton, diving from the Club’s own rib.
These would usually be at the weekend, but can sometimes be
arranged during the week.
