July/August 2014 – Raven Housing Trust Try Dives

Over a 3 week per2014-08-12-21-01-15aiod, the Raven Housing Trust had arranged for BUDC to give up to 18 participants the opportunity to experience what it is like to scuba dive.  The first session was 29th July – and 3 teenagers, 1 Mum, and 1 youth leader took the plunge.  After some initial apprehension, all successfully submerged and appeared to enjoy the experience.  The second session 5th August saw 5 teenagers and 1 youth leader participate, and then on 12th August a further 6 teenagers took part.

All the teenagers were given a BSAC pack containing a Try Dive certificate, literature on BSAC and learning to dive, and a BSAC produced DVD – Go Diving UK – which gives examples of the type of diving available in the UK.  We have been able to do this as last year we were awarded a Sport England grant for scuba kit for lending to trainees, where we especially targeted smaller sizes to be able to enable young people to participate in scuba diving.

Thanks to all BUDC Instructors and members who provided assistance to make the evenings run smoothly and to George who took the underwater photos, and Alan for the poolside photos.  Click here  to view some more photos of the try dives.
