Club Notes – 16 May 2016

W/C 16th May 2016
Fellow Bubblers

As the winter chill is now becoming a distant memory and thoughts turn to getting in the water, (although some members don’t seem to have had a break and continued to splash in at Wraysbury, Vobster and Stoney Cove throughout most of the Winter) I thought it was time to bring people up to date.

Pool Sessions
Although a Monday night doesn’t suit all, which is a shame, the actual pool facility is a great success and is a considerable cost saving over the Banstead pool. Currently we don’t have any trainees going through the programme so the pool is quiet but be aware that Colin has a new intake and it will be busy over the next 6-8 weeks.

Social Sessions
The BSAC South East regional coach, Dave Culver, came along to our last Tuesday night event and 14 members were in attendance, he gave a 30 minute brief about the region and how they can support us and then showed a video of his ice diving trip to Russia (mmm there’s a thought!)
If anyone has any thoughts or ideas as to what they would like to see or do please do let me know and will try to arrange.

Equipment
There was a working party on the boat a few weeks ago plus the engines have been serviced so all in good nick, the throttle cables will need replacing at some point but currently they are working ok.
The o2 unit has been repaired and Tim is holding spares in case required.

Diving
Last week-end saw the boat go out twice with five divers on Saturday (Mulberry and Waldrons drift) and six on Sunday (Mulberry) viz was 3-4m but with a plankton ‘snot’ cloud, temperature 12-13 degrees. As it transpired the weather on Sunday was not as predicted so only one dive.
This coming weekend is workable from a tidal aspect but windguru predicts force 5-6 winds and 2m wave heights and 80-100% cloud cover – dismal – also looking at the land forecast I suggest not bothering to get out the barbecue or garden tools!

Trips
 Portland
Mark and Charlie have arranged a few days away in Portland 29th June to 1st July 2016, out on the SkinDeep (good boat!) and staying in the bunkhouse in Charlestown on Portland Bill, there may still be some spaces so get in touch!
 Mull
Dates are now fixed with diving from 12th to 16th September, the trip is currently full with 12 members going.
