Unlike the other dives on this trip the boat was some way off of the big
islands when we moored the boat up.
The brief for the dive did not come across as anything special, maximum
depth of 20 metres, a rocky ridge and some large rocks. Unlike the
first three dives, no caves or swim throughs. So Tim and I
jump in and set off down the shot line.
The vis is about 8 metres at
the sea bed and we set off to find the rocky ridge. Once there
turn left and as we swim along we come across some goat fish feeding on
a patch of sand. As we get to the end of the rocky ridge all we
have seen are a lot of small fish and some nice looking soft corals,
then off to our left there is a rock with a large hole though it
and in the hole is the tail of a big grouper. I signal to Tim for
us to swim around the rock to see it face on. Tim thinks I am going
around there to chase it
back out to him so he stayed where he was. When I saw this fish
face on, you just knew not to mess with it, the biggest grouper I
have ever seen.
The next think we came across was a large clam, of a type I had never
seen before, then the biggest scorpion fish I have ever seen.
And just when we think we have seen all that there is to see, we
find the tail of a very large moray eel sticking out between some rocks.
You could not see the head, just the tail, so I stroked it and the
biggest eel shot out and vanished into some more rocks.
All the dives were first class but something about this one was special
for me.
